Known as ramps in the culinary world, this wild leek is used much like onions or garlic. With a scallion-like bulb rooted just below the surface, they are hunted and harvested as rare delicacies. In the wild they are found in groups with broad, smooth, light green leaves, often with deep purple or burgundy tints on the lower stems. Though not prized for their blooms, small clusters of white flowers do grace this species.
