Commonly called a Marsh Mallow, the extract of the root of this plant was initially used as a gelling agent in the popular marshmallow confections! The actual plant grows between three and four feet high, abundantly bearing large pale pink to rose-colored flowers. The maple-like leaves are a velvety, soft gray-green with serrated edges. Not only valued for it's beauty, it has long been used by herbalists as a medicinal plant.
