Tall and bending in summer zephyrs, 'Big Bluestem' is a backbone of the prairie. Admired for its early bluish color, this native grass produces three-fingered seed heads, August through September. Red shades of color will take over as summer proceeds, and after frost the grass will turn a beautiful burgundy. Its stately form will add winter interest when the summer sun seems far away.
