In the same family and similar in appearance to common milkweed, this wildflower instead blooms a deep rose pink and it's leaves are more pointed. These flowers give way to smooth seed pods, which, when ripe, split open, releasing their silky down and seeds. These pods are sought out by many for dried flower arrangements. Like it's close relative, purple milkweed is a nectar source for many butterflies, and a host plant for monarch larvae.
