The heads of this bright yellow marigold-resembling wildflower nod downward with age, earning it the name of 'Nodding-Burr Marigold.' Small barbs on the seeds tend to cling tightly to clothing, fur, and feathers, and are one of the ways this plant propagates itself. On the Hawaiian Islands, these plants are commonly used to brew a refreshing tea. Some regions also eat it as a vegetable! To a limited extent, the seeds of this cheery wildflower are enjoyed by various species of birds, including the Mallard Duck, Purple Finch, and Common Redpoll.
