This native grass is a short-lived perennial that reaches about 2' tall. The weight of the seed heads cause the ends of this wild grass to drop gracefully downward, and when ripe, the seeds provide a nourishing food source for upland game birds, sparrows, and small rodents. This short, attractive grass is sometimes used on slopes and banks to control erosion, as well as for naturalizing prairies and meadows.
