Called 'Prairie Sedge' because of it's preference to both dry upland prairies and wet river bottoms. The narrow grass-like leaves of the foliage stay around two feet, while the flowering heads tower above it up to three feet high! The seed-heads are not as showy as some of the other sedges, but that doesn't seem to bother the various sparrows and upland birds who enjoy this tasty snack.
