Closely related to the California poppy, this Tufted Poppy carpets whole hillsides up and down the Pacific coast. 16th century Spanish Explorers saw the coastal hills covered with this golden colored poppy, and took it to mean that America was the land of gold as well. Truly, the rich yellow carpets of these blooms is one of the most famous and spectacular natural wildflower display in the world! Though the state flower of California, this flower can be grown anywhere. With it's dusty dark green foliage and brilliant blooms, no garden or meadow is quite complete without it's sunny presence.
