Joe Pye was an Indian medicine man during Colonial times, and he supposedly used this native wildflower as a medicinal herb. Reminding some of dusty rose phlox, this beautiful plant's showy colors are displayed during late summer when most plant's flowers are dying away. The tiny clusters of dull, pinkish-purple flowers are vanilla scented and a favorite of butterflies. A water loving plant, this wildflower is mostly found in wet meadows, stream margins, and other low, moist ground. An excellent addition to your wetlands!
