Named in honor of Meriwether Lewis of Lewis & Clark, being it was discovered on their expedition across the plains. As a member of the flax family, this species is important in the production of linseed oil and fabric. Boasting pale, pastel-blue, five-petaled flowers, this native wildflower reseeds itself readily, and is quite aggressive in favorable conditions. Important in Native American folklore, it is always noted for it's beauty!
