One of the more showy aquatic plants, the 'Pickerel Rush' is an indispensable wildflower for your wetland planting. Glossy, arrow-head shaped leaves can be used in salads, the foliage also providing shelter for various species of fish, particularly Pickerel. Showy spikes of tiny blue tubular flowers attract bees and butterflies, and later give way to seeds edible by both wildlife and humans. With a long blooming season of around five months, this native plant is a favorite for those naturalizing swamps and ponds.
