A more fitting common name couldn't be given to this native perennial than 'Cat's Claw Sensitive Plant.' A member of the mimosa family, the leaves fold up when touched or disturbed, and the recurved thorns along the semi-woody vine makes it clear that this plant does not want to be disturbed! Bright pink star-burst flowers bloom in congested bunches, followed by long, slender, prickle covered seed pods. Highly nutritious for livestock, the absence of this wildflower can be an indication of overgrazing.
