Wildflowers - Iris Seeds

Yes, you can grow Iris from seeds! They take extra special handling and some patience, but it can be done. They take a few years to get up to blooming size, but the resulting blooms are much larger than most native plants. We grew a field of Northern Blue Flag Iris for seed production, and every spring they put on quite a show. They are very long lived if they have enough moisture. Irises can be grown on average garden soil, but prefer a lot of water, making them perfect for planting in and around ponds along stream banks, where they can keep their feet wet. Iris flower seeds are best planted out in the fall.
